Kerala Government's liquor ban policy fuels up the fire today in Supreme Court of India. Senior Advocate Harish Salve who appears for bar owners submitted to the Bench dealing with the issue that the State policy of closing down all bars is arbitrary.
Kerala Government had banned as a matter of policy, the sale of liquor in all bars and hotels below five star. The recent petition is filed by four-star bars and hotels challenging the said ban as a result of the State High Court verdict which upheld the State Government policy.
The petitioners say that the policy is an infringement of right to equality. As per their version if the Government wants liquor ban, it should be applied to all hotels. As the controversial ban continues, it will be interesting to see how the fundamental rights involved in it are dealt with by the apex court of the nation.
